Calling gutsy, moneyed individuals

MOVIES. Reviving the Cebuano/Visayan movie industry is a tall order, but a doable venture. A producer doesn’t have to get named stars in order to ensure the bankability of his film. A classic example was the good box-office performance of “Patay Na Si Hesus” during last month’s Pista ng mga Pelikulang Pilipino. Jaclyn Jose was the only big star in it and the rest of the cast members are just small-time actors and actresses here.

QUALITY. But why did “Patay Na Si Hesus” earn big? Credit goes to Victor Villanueva whose excellent and quality directorial task made the film a box-office hit. Of course, the story was fun and exciting.

WISH. I wish that the eventual revival of the local movie industry will happen so soon. But we need gutsy, moneyed and courageous individuals that are willing to invest in the filmmaking business. Without them, the local movie industry will remain dormant.

ADVOCACY. I admire the men and women behind the Society Awareness Volunteerism Empowerment or (Save) for promoting mental health through the power of music. It is coming up with a concert for a cause that also coincides with the first anniversary of Shaka Hawaiian Restaurant located at the Garden Block of IT Park in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City. My good friend Bunny Pages owns this restaurant.

CONCERT. Come Sept. 30, Save stages “September to Remember” at Shaka starting at 8 p.m. The concert features six local acoustic singers plus one of their counterparts from Manila. Bloggers as well as foreign filmmakers are also coming to the event. (For comments, text 0932-277-8771)
