LTO to open 2 more offices
Residents of the islands of Bantayan and Camotes will soon be able to register their vehicles with ease.
Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 Director Alita Pulga and the mayors of Sta. Fe and Poro towns signed yesterday a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the setting up of LTO satellite offices in the two islands.
As stated in the MOA, the local government units (LGUs) of the two islands will provide additional manpower, office, computers and other facilities. The LTO office will be manned by organic LTO personnel and will use the system of Stradcom, an information technology (IT) provider.
The chief executives who signed the MOA with Pulga were Mayor Jose Esgana of Sta. Fe in Bantayan Island and Mayor Luciano Rama Jr. of Poro, Camotes Island.
The MOA signing was witnessed by Mayor Chris Escario of Bantayan, Mayor Jay River dela Fuente and Vice Mayor Salvador dela Fuente of Madridejos, Mayor Erwin Yu of Tudela and Mayor Al Aquillano of San Francisco.
Pulga said the LTO extension offices in Sta. Fe and Poro will offer renewal of motor vehicle registration, and issuance of permits and licenses.
“Maybe in the future we will conduct the law enforcement but we still have to conduct an effective information and education campaign just to inform the constituents of these two islands that LTO is now existing in their areas,” Pulga said.
Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino, for his part, said that the MOA was an offshoot of his consultative meetings with the people of the two islands.
He said that for a long time, the mayors have requested for an LTO satellite office in Bantayan and Camotes.
The mayors said that a vehicle owner has to go to the LTO district office in Danao City and shell out P6,000 for the transport and registration of their vehicle.
Pulga said they will inaugurate the LTO offices soon, but they are waiting for the availability of the local officials to set the schedule.
