LAST ROUND 3 scenarios for the War of the Titans

- JINGO QUIJANO jingo_quijano@yahoo.com

This is one of those fights where you are pitifully reduced to arguing with yourself, and every day you change your mind about who will be the winner.

But in the end, I’m leaning more towards GGG. He has mastered the art of controlled aggression and his superior chin will play a crucial role in a fight that is expected to be a classic middleweight war.

Here are three potential scenarios for today’s much anticipated championship fight between Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez.

FIRST. Golovkin comes out aggressively, firing off jabs and right hands. Canelo is forced to backpedal, and counter. The first three rounds are close but they are scored for GGG for his aggression.

In the fourth, Canelo gains some momentum as he lands a beautiful combination that snaps Golovkin’s head and buzzes him.

The middle rounds are a give and take affair, with Golovkin landing the hard punches and Canelo countering beautifully.

In Rounds 8 and 9, Canelo makes his push as he boxes beautifully making GGG miss repeatedly and making him pay for those misses.

The championship rounds are too close to call with both fighters having their moments. The final bell rings with both men on their feet exchanging which brings the crowd to its feet in raucous applause,

The verdict is a draw, which is expectedly booed by the crowd, but that opens the door for a rematch which should be an even bigger fight.

SECOND. Canelo wins the earlier rounds, surprising the pundits as he boxes and counter-punches Golovkin beautifully.

The latter lands some jabs and right hands but everytime something of consequence lands, Canelo makes him pay. In the middle rounds, Canelo continues implementing his excellent gameplan but you get the sense that Golovkin is starting to make his move.

True enough, GGG starts to take over in the 8th round as he seems to be unaffected by the return fire coming his way. He pummels Alvarez along the ropes repeatedly, and the latter is forced to clinch. In the 10th a particularly brutal right hand stuns Canelo along the ropes and the ref jumps in to waive the fight off.

Canelo’s fans boo the stoppage as a tad premature but it could be argued that at that point, he had nothing left in the tank.

THIRD. Both fighters start out tentatively, which is a bit of a letdown. However , the pace suddenly picks up in round 3 with Canelo landing several shots to the midsection and Golovkin scoring with several hard jabs.

The middle rounds are difficult to score but Canelo is the busier fighter and starts to pad his lead.

Golovkin expectedly rallies hard in rounds 8-10 as he pushes forward and rocks Canelo.

The championship rounds are action-packed but Canelo has prepared well for the fight, landing more punches and utilizing his advantage in hand speed quite well.

The judges turn in a close but unanimous decision victory for Alvarez.

LAST ROUND. It’s on Theanna Rayne Zosa-Tan who recently celebrated her birthday. Cheers!
