DBTC defeats USJ-R in Cesafi football

Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) showed that it's a cut above the rest with a 27-0 demolition of University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) in the high school division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) football tournament yesterday in the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).

After a shocking 7-0 win over defending champion Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), DBTC posted its biggest and most impressive win in the tournament against listless USJ-R.

John Vitualla led the pack with six goals. Vince Pacaña and Thomas Ramos had four goals each. Erich Orale, Miguel Mercader and Joseph Genson each scored a hattrick. Christian Jubac had a brace, while Clyde Castro and Josh Asignar had a goal each.

SHS-AdC, in the meantime, posted back-to-back wins after a 3-0 victory over University of Southern Philippine­s Foundation (USPF) in the other high school match.

Leo Maquiling started the late match rally by SHS-AdC, hitting the opening goal in the 73rd minute. Ray Barro struck in the 87th minute, while Kiann Partosa sealed the match with an 89th minute goal.

DBTC is still at the top with nine points, while SHS-AdC moved up to second place with six points and just ahead of USPF on goal difference.

In the college division, University of the Visayas (UV) shocked reigning titleholde­r University of San Carlos (USC), 1-0, with an early goal.

UV went ahead in just two minutes of regulation with a goal by Kenneth Vargas.

USJ-R and University of Cebu settled to a 1-1 draw in the other college division match.

John Perez scored the opening goal in just the eighth minute to give USJ-R the early lead. Edcil Villamero scored the equalizer 21 minutes later.

Despite the loss, USC still holds leadership with six points, followed by USJ-R with five points. UV moved up two spots at third place with three points and is just in front of UC on goal difference.
