Barangay Pajo in Lapu-Lapu City destroyed a structure that had been identified as a drug den. Barangay Captain Junard Chan also led the posting of information campaign materials on different houses telling the people to report any illegal activities. Chan was joined by Senior Supt. Rommel Cabagnot, LapuLapu City Police Office director, and Senior Insp. Felix Cleopas III, Lapu-Lapu Police Station 3. “Our barangay is not only focusing on eliminating illegal drugs, but we are also fighting against other criminality,” Chan said in Cebuano. The barangay captain is willing to talk with the Commission on Human Rights if the latter sees any human rights violation in yesterday’s activities.

A structure that was reportedly identified as owned by a drug den was demolished in Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday in the barangay’s fight against illegal drugs.

Pajo Barangay Captain Junard Chan led the sticking of information campaign materials on different houses in the village, telling the people to report any illegal activities.

It’s different from the shame campaign in Sitio Kamanggahan in Pajo earlier this month, where Chan spray-painted the doors of three rooms that were identified as drug dens.

Yesterday, Chan was joined by Senior Supt. Rommel Cabagnot, director of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO), and Senior Insp. Felix Cleopas III, chief of Lapu-Lapu Police Station 3.

Chan first put stickers with the statement, “Likay sa daotan aron di matanggong sa prisohan,” and contact numbers of the barangay captain, Cabagnot and Cleopas in Sitio Paradise.

Barangay tanods also randomly posted the same stickers on the rest of the houses in the area.

After putting the stickers, they moved to Sitio Camansi where a structure owned by an identified drug personality was demolished for allegedly being used as a drug den.

Chan said the house was owned by Portugal Balani, who used these for illegal drug activities. Balani escaped when a police operation was conducted in the area a few months ago.

Chan said Balani’s first degree cousin and the latter’s wife, who previously surrendered to the authorities, were reportedly the ones who used the area after Balani left.

“Balani’s cousin and his wife were the ones who initiated to demolish the structure just to clear their names and to help the barangay make the village free from drugs,” he said.

Chan said he is willing to talk with the Commission on Human Rights if they see any human rights violation in the activity they did yesterday./
