Garcia to Osmeña: enforce policies on parking during heavy traffic

- / RVC

Cebu City Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia has challenged Mayor Tomas Osmeña to strictly enforce the policy on parking in the city.

In an interview, Garcia said he is supportive of the move of Osmeña to run after parking violators, but it should not be selective.

“I am one with the mayor in going after these violators. But the mayor is very selective. There are lots of buildings that are violating the ordinance on parking,” he said.

If parking spaces are not utilized for its purpose, Garcia said drivers will park their vehicles on the roadside, which causes traffic.

Garcia said that among the violators of parking rules is the management of Asian College of Technology International Education Foundation (ACTIEF) formerly Asian College of Technology (ACT).

“I challenge the mayor to go to ACT and check of they’re following our parking ordinance and if they’re not, then enforce the law,” he said.

Garcia said Osmeña chose to close his eyes to the violation of ACTIEF because one of the owners is his friend.

“If he has to go after somebody or enforce the law then he should go first to the ACT. Not because they are friends, then he will close his eyes even if it violates the law,” he added.

When sought for comment, Osmeña clarified that when enforcing the law, he makes no exception.

The mayor said he doesn’t see any violation that was committed by the management of ACTIEF.

“I don’t know about any violation of ACT (ACTIEF). Let him file a case and we will respond to it accordingly,” he said.
