Birthdays

Ayearly tradition of Cebu City Marriott Hotel is to honor Cebu’s senior lifestyle writers with a joint birthday party. This year, amiable Marriott general manager Patrick Carroll and the ever efficient marketing communications duo of Frances Alfafara and Nico Velasquez, came up with something new. It was not the usual candlelit-dinner-withall-the-works, but a mid-morning affair that had us enthralled and excited with the different kinds of essential oils from Young Living. Yes, we could smell the seductive fragrance of the oils on display at the Gumamela Hall where Savvy Oilistas Faith Teo of Singapore and Eloise Hernandez gave their “Oil Talk.” Informative and eye-opening, the informal chat centered on the uses of the various oils.... Lavender oil to calm and soothe; Peppermint oil for a quick perkme-up; Panaway (a mix of wintergreen oil and other hot oils) to soothe tired and aching muscles; and many more. Soon we were asked to mix our own oils according to our preferences as to scents and uses. Fascinating and fun!

Lunch was an elegant affair on a long, flower-filled table decorated by Simple Wishes. Executive chef Chachpol Suaisom made sure that we had an out-ofthe-ordinary birthday treat.

It was a lovely morning of “Scents and Essences” and a memorable birthday celebration for all of us. A heartfelt thank you to Marriott Hotel for our specially curated garden cake, and for the Young Living starter kit of essential oils which will definitely have us on the way to wellness the essential oils’ way.

○○○ For this year’s birthday celebration, Carlitos Agustines chose to have a catered lauriat dinner with the choicest of seafoods, pigeon and other delectables on the menu. Nothing but the best for Carlitos and his friends. Venue was the Agustines gazebo up Maria Luisa Hills.

○○○ With three lovely and devot- ed daughters, Quintin Calagos is very well taken care of...and this goes for wife Emma too. For his 86th birthday, daughters Elaine, Eunice and Eloise organized a dinner affair at Radisson Blu, bringing together a host of relatives and close friends.

○○○ A well-known figure in the travel industry, Manila-based Ligaya Tabirao of Meteor Phils. Inc., invited travel agent friends for lunch at Cafe Marco of Marco Polo Plaza when she came to town. The topic of the gathering?... travel destinations of course!

○○○ Joel del Prado had his birthday bash at the roofdeck of MSY Bldg. at Cebu Business Park. It was a breezy night with stars a-plenty. Food came from the classy Pig and Palm restaurant on the first level of the building.

○○○ It was a joint birthday lunch at Casino Español for bosom friends Nelda Cabucos and Susan Calero. What made it extra special were the fruits that green-thumbed Nelda brought from her orchard in Guadalupe... luscious mangoes, sugar-sweet jackfruit and the creamy guyabanos which made for very refreshing ice-cold juices. Oh yes, the strictly “hen affair” was also a welcome gathering for Susan who had an extended stay in the land of milk and honey.

○○○ Another joint birthday celebration was the dinner affair preceded by Holy Mass at Citylights Garden for Angeles Borromeo Gallego and son Jaime. It was a beautiful gathering of family all the way to the third generation. Of course everyone was dancing attendance on Angelita (the founder of the Angelica Bakery chain) who is well past the 90 year mark.
