Fashion capitals of the world took the runway as this year’s graduates of the Fashion Institute of Design and Arts (Fida) presented designs inspired by the vibrant fashion destinations through its graduation fashion show: “Beyond Borders.”

The gala fashion show took place at The Northwing of SM City Cebu last Sept. 10. It showcased and celebrated the achievements of its graduates from fashion runway and makeup artistry. Fashion styling and merchandising graduate Cleo Padayao showed her works in a video presentation; Various collections of Fida’s Fashion Design and Apparel Technology students were presented as well.

Maria, Angela Dado, Valerie Alvez, Yorena Tabar, Edwin Alba, Lord Maturan and Edward James Castro also showed their works, presented by Technomarine, bearing the theme “Deep Blue Sea.”

Percie Requiero’s “Checkmate” collection won first place for best collection and is inspired by the city of Paris. This collection presented a twinge of nostalgia with opposing elements: Light and dark, masculine and feminine—which to her, felt very much like the game of chess. Coming in second was Lisle Wadingan’s “Uptown/Downtown,” reflecting the diverse and dynamic city of New York which she interpreted using crisp fabrics in colorful and playful patterns with retro undertones and played up silhouettes. Winning third place was Yoko Sato’s “Noodle” collection, inspired by Japan’s edgy fashion scene and her homage to Japanese artistry and innovation by incorporating traditional cuts like kirigami and origami (paper folding).

Other collections presented include “Polychroma” by graduate Killy Tampus. This debut collection is the culmination of her passion that showed a hint of old world charm mixed with a contemporary finish. There was also “Arcana” by Jonas Labastida; timeless and elegant designs with a play of light and shadow inspired by Milan’s fashion scene. Ronie Adlawan’s “Heroine” had New York as the backdrop, where modern day heroines are the muse and focal point of the collection. Finally, Bianca Willemsen’s “Radiance” collection had a simplistic approach and was inspired by the dreamy and wistful landscapes of Paris, which she considers the ultimate romantic destination.
