MON ASKS COA: PROBE CASH AID TO POC
PSC wants COA fraud office to look into unliquidated POC finances
Philippines Sports Commission’s (PSC) Ramon S. Fernandez is seeking help from the Fraud Audit Office of the Commission on Audit to investigate the unliquidated financial assistance given by the former PSC board to the Philippine Olympic Committee.
“May we request that a fraud audit be conducted on the transactions of the Philippine Sports Commission from the years July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2016. (The) said agency received subsidy from the government. Per attached documents, many transactions/disbursements are highly questionable and still unliquidated for several years,” Fernandez said in his letter addressed to Atty. Blesildo Sabaldan, Director III of the Fraud Audit Office Special Services Sector of the Commission on Audit.
Included in the list of transactions is the P130 million financial assistance extended by PSC to the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) during the time of former PSC chairman Richie Garcia.
On top of this, Fernandez is also asking COA to take action for the failure of POC president Peping Cojuangco and some officials of the POC for their failure to return the P27M disallowed expenses during the 2005 Southeast Asian Games hosting.
The current PSC board, led by chairman William “Butch” Ramirez, is supporting Fernandez in his fight to have the POC held accountable for the funds given to them. /
