CCPO ADVOCATES EFFECTIVE PARENTING TO COUNTER DRUG ABUSE

The Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) continues to be in the forefront in the war against illegal drugs with innovative strategies, such as promoting effective parenting and community involvement.
The Bogo City Police Station recently hugged national print, television and social media for its story “Barangay Drug-clearing with Killing,” with the community-based drug rehabilitation in the core.
But Supt. Byron Allatog would argue that there is nothing new about it, saying, “every policy, every directive is in place, we just have to do it sincerely and seriously.”
More than 1,000 surrenderers from Bogo City have undergone a community-based drug rehabilitation program. Progress is tracked to ensure that they would not relapse and go back to using and pushing. Ten known drug pushers in the city have been neutralized, and none of them died in anti-drug operations.
In its endeavor to deliver a balanced anti-drug campaign, the CPPO has introduced anti-drug prevention programs. CPPO believes that war on drugs should be first wage at home. The provincial police force has been bringing this message to the communities through the partnership with police stations, the church and its partner, Pamilya Muna Pilipinas.
Pamilya Muna Pilipinas (PMP) recently visited Cebu for a series of “Effective Parent” seminars for the CPPO chiefs of police and the students of the Regional Training Center 7 in Consolacion, Cebu.
The seminar was delivered by the missionary volunteer couple, Rene and Mary Rose Espina from Pasig.
Apart from learning practical lessons and testimonies of Rene and Mary Rose on becoming better parents, students also received the workbook and textbook, Be a Better Dad Today, which provides leadership tools and additional knowledge for the campaign against drugs in their stations.
Family members are encouraged to join family therapy sessions, as part of restoring relationships between the surrenderers and their families.
In the Philippines, broken families or poor family relationships rank very high among the reasons for why young people were lured to illegal drug use. Strong families, on the other hand, are also the main reason why other young people do not take drugs.
