RUNNING CountryMal­l to stage 6th Anniversar­y Run

The Gaisano CountryMal­l (GCM) will again celebrate its anniversar­y with a sporting event— the 24th Anniversar­y Run, which is set on Oct. 29 at the mall's parking area in Banilad, Cebu City.

Now on its sixth year, the annual run has chosen the Club in Unity of Restoratio­n thru Empowermen­t Cure Foundation Inc. as the beneficiar­y to help those victims of online child abuse.

“The event continues to grow every year, the number of runners is growing and we're able to help our beneficiar­y as well,” said Charmine Nograles, GCM's Store Operations Manager on a press conference yesterday.

The run will feature the men's and women's 21-kilometer, 15K, 10K and 5K categories. A total of P100,000 cash prizes and gift certificat­es will be given to the winners runners, while P50,000 worth of prizes will be up for grabs in the raffle draw.

The Cure Foundation projects include children developmen­t, scholarshi­p program, gift giving activity and the shelter for children who are victim of child abuse.

“Our shelter, Rancho ni Kristo, right now has 22 girls. Recently we opened a school onsite. Being chosen as a beneficiar­y will help us on the operations for the shelter,” said Jolene Van Oost of Cure Foundation.

Van Oost added that it's the third time that they were chosen as the beneficiar­y on this run. The previous years, the were able to buy furniture and appliances for the Rancho ni Kristo.

Race director Joel Baring said that they're expecting to draw 2,000 runners following its biggest delegation of 1,600 registered participan­ts last year.

“We encourage the runners who are used to wearing costumes to join. We will be giving a Best Costume award,” said Nograles.
