NCWSI OPENS NEW, BIGGER WORKPLACE

With its ongoing expansion to fully service 10,000 to 12,000 households in the next two years, the Naga City Water System Inc. (NCWSI) yesterday opened its new and bigger office in Barangay South Poblacion, City of Naga, Cebu after three years of operating in the southern city.

The NCWSI, which used to hold office at the Enan Chiong Activity Center near the city public plaza, is being managed by the Abejo Waters Corp. after entering into a joint venture with the City Government wherein 10 percent of its investment is owned by the local government unit.

Gabino “Borgy” Abejo Jr., president and chief executive officer of Abejo Waters Corp., hopes to develop the yard of their new office for their ongoing P165-million expansion of the city’s distribution lines.

Abejo Waters Corp. had initially invested about P50 million when it began its operations, but it was not enough to cover the entire city, he said.

The NCWSI had availed itself of a P165-million loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) for the expansion project. Abejo said that the investment also benefits the local residents, as they have hired Nagahanons to work at the ex- pansion project.

For now, the system distributes water to 2,000 households with a 24/7 uninterrupted service, said Abejo.

“It’s an advantage for us, being the bulk water supplier of MCWD (Metro Cebu Water District) because before the end of the year, we hope to fully service 1,000 more households in the city,” he said, adding that the new NCWSI office is very accessible to the consumers, as it is located in the poblacion.

Abejo added that they hope to fully service the remaining 60 percent of Naga’s 12,000 households in the next two years.
