- RSC

The road to Bohol and Ilocos Sur is set for Cebu City athletes as the 27th Cebu City Olympics will get underway on Nov. 20 to 24 in various venues in Cebu.

The Cebu City Olympics is a qualifying event for the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa), which is set in the second week of February next year in Bohol.

The winners in the Cviraa will then advance to the 2018 Palarong Pambansa in Ilocos Sur in April. Ilocus Sur recently won the bidding for the national sporting meet over Ilagan City in Isabela, Baguio City, the Province of Bulacan and Marikina City.

“The schedule for the Cebu City Olympics was originally on Oct. 18 to 22 but we moved it on Nov. 20 to 24 so we can have more time with the preparation,” the newly-appointed Cebu City Division sports coordinator Francis Ramirez told SunStar Cebu.

Ramirez said that the ball games will start two days before the formal opening ceremony at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) on Nov. 20.

The venues for the event has already been finalized. The CCSC will host boxing, badminton, sepak takraw, swimming, football and athletes.

Chess, scrabble, wushu, tae- kwondo, karatedo and gymnastics will be held at Robinsons’ Galleria.

Basketball will be played at Cebu Coliseum and Cebu Eastern College; volleyball at Barrio Luz Elementary School and Lahug Elementary School; and batted sports at Labangon Elementary School. /
