FORMER SOGOD VICE MAYOR FOUND DEAD INSIDE HOTEL
Nicasio “Nick” Bacayo, former vice mayor of Sogod and a project engineer for WT Construction Inc., was usually in Cebu City to withdraw cash for salaries of construction workers in the northern town. He was a regular customer at a hotel in Barangay Cogon-Ramos. When he didn’t check out when he was supposed to yesterday, hotel staff decided to enter his room. What they found was his naked body lying on the floor. So far, police have ruled out foul play. However, they will conduct an autopsy on Bacayo’s body to determine the cause of death. According to the victim’s daughter, her father had a heart problem and was admitted to the hospital last month.
A former vice mayor of the northern town of Sogod was found dead inside his hotel room in Barangay Cogon-Ramos, Cebu City yesterday afternoon.
Nicasio "Nick" Bacayo, 53, was naked in a leaning position on the floor.
Investigators have yet to determine how he died.
"In our initial investigation, there was no foul play. When we called his daughter, she revealed that he was suffering from a heart problem and was admitted to the hospital last month," said SPO1 Winston Ybañez of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office.
The Homicide Section received the dead person alarm at 2:30 p.m.
Autopsy
Bacayo, a project engineer of WT Construction Inc., was supposed to check out of the hotel yesterday, but had not answered the staff's call.
Hotel management decided to open the room, and that was when they discovered his body.
According to the responding Emergency and Response Unit Foundation, Bacayo's body was already in a state of rigor mortis.
Ybañez said that the victim checked in last Thursday and was a regular customer of the hotel.
The victim's daughter told homicide investigators said that her father was in the city during weekends to withdraw cash as salaries for construction employees in Sogod.
Aside from medicines and other pills, a pack of condom was also found in the room together with identification cards and cash transfer slips to his family.
Ybañez said that an autopsy will be conducted on Bacayo's body to determine the cause of death.
Investigators will also check the hotel's security cameras to check the victim's movements.
