MONSTERS OF THE PHILIPPINES
It’s that time of year when you start hearing about all sorts of scary creatures. But did you know there are even scarier monsters in the Philippines? If vampires and werewolves don’t scare you, maybe these might.
1. Manananggal
A beautiful woman by day, a frightening sight by night. When the sun sets, this creature sprouts wings and the top part of its body separates from the bottom. It then searches for pregnant women in the neighborhood to feed on the unborn child.
2. Tikbalang
This monster has the head and feet of a horse and the body of a human. If you find yourself lost in the woods, be careful. The tikbalang may have tricked you.
3. Aswang
Probably the most difficult monster to detect, the aswang is a cross between a vampire and a witch and can shapeshift to an animal, making it difficult to catch. During the day, they look just like regular humans, so beware.
4. Kapre
A giant who likes to smoke cigars, the kapre can be found in forests hiding among the trees.
5. Tiyanak
Don’t be fooled by adorable looking babies that are all alone. They will lose their charm when they transform into a tiyanak. Those adorable eyes will start to glow and that sweet smile will be replaced by a sneer covered with razor-sharp teeth.
