Danao police report drop in index crimes
In his first five months as head of the Danao City Police Station, Chief Insp. Gerard Ace Pelare said that their tougher drive against illegal drugs contributed to the drop of index crimes in the city.
From April to September this year, he said they recorded 78 incidents, which is 51 percent lesser compared to the 160 incidents they recorded in the same period last year.
Index crimes are those committed against persons and properties like theft, robbery, physical injury, carnapping, murder, rape, homicide, and cattle rustling, among others.
Pelare initiated the Oplan Limpyo Danao (Clean Danao), which is his comprehensive anti-illegal drug program.
Concern
“Illegal drug use is a significant problem in Danao City. It is a pressing concern in the community since several crimes committed are widely believed to be correlated with the use of illegal drugs. Thus, peace and order is hampered by the continuous proliferation of illegal drugs,” he said.
In the past five months, the police station conducted 201 anti-illegal drug operations, resulting in the arrest of 204 pushers and 177 users.
Three pushers were also killed in a shootout with the police.
Anti-illegal drug operatives confiscated 1.2 kilos of suspected shabu from the suspects.
As a result of their drug busts, Pelare said that the non-index crimes in the city from April to September this year rose to 568 from last year’s 475, or an increase of 20 percent.
Non-index crimes are violations of special laws, such as those against illegal drugs, gambling and loose firearms.
The crime volume in Danao City from April to December also rose to 646 incidents from last year’s 635, or an increase of two percent. /
