Pads Dragonboat team wades fierce, earns 3 titles

The Philippine Accessible Disability Services (Pads) Adaptive Dragon Boat Racing Team snagged three titles in the 1st City of Naga Dragonboat Race at the City of Naga Baywalk last Monday.

The persons-with-disabiliti­es (PWD) paddlers bucked the odds as they reigned in the 250-meter open small boat, 250m mixed small boat and 250m all-women categories.

Pads won the 250m open small boat in 1 minute and 15.32 seconds, beating Gruppo Habagat by one second.

Pads added another first place finish in the 250m mixed small boat, finishing the course in in 1:19.37. Gruppo Habagat came second in 1:20.10.

Pads Pink paddlers lorded it over in the 250m all-women’s division, clocking 1:28.56 to beat Habagat Firedblade, which clocked 1:29.05.

Pads also won third place in the 250m mixed small boat to finish with three golds and one bronze in the competitio­n, which is part of the activities on the 188th City of Naga Annual Fiesta Celebratio­n.

Pads team was composed of Arnold Balais, Marvin Renacia, Danilo Villardo, Brylle Arombo, Verniel Faustrilla, Marvi Ubay, Bonjovi Guimayen, Rolando Noya, Owen Loceño, team captain JP Maunes, Rob Gomm, Nestor Bulan, Jonathan Dela Peña and Jose Revel Sotes.

Also in the team were Rey Mangayao, James Tiu, Jeffrey Dael, Ezra Montalban, Markcel Ubay, Niño Claire Arias, Nora Rosette, Janice Aparri, Karen Dianon, Michelle Villafuert­e, Eva Noya, Emma Redita, Cristina Benabaye and Elizabeth Ramos. /
