Homegrown Maayo Medical is elevating the medical tourism experience in Cebu by opening its specialty and wellness clinics.

Last Tuesday, the medical center unveiled to guests and medical professionals its specialty and wellness clinics such as the eye center, aesthetics institute, liver wellness, nutrition services, men’s wellness and urology center, and women’s wellness.

It also unveiled its rehabilitation and aquatic therapy clinic.

Outpatient services

Dr. Manuel Emerson Donaldo, the medical director, said the specialty and wellness clinics at Maayo Medical are meant to provide holistic and quality healthcare services to the community. He added it also aims to elevate the form of outpatient experience in Cebu.

The outpatient healthcare establishment is located on the corner of UN Ave. and Plaridel St. in Mandaue City.

Last July, the group unveiled its diagnostics and therapeutic clinics.

Maayo Medical has invested heavily in innovative health systems and processes, the latest medical equipment, people and a modern building as it aims to be the healthcare provider of choice in Southeast Asia.

The facility features top-tier wellness equipment such as fibroscan for the liver, robotic hair transplant, picosecond treatment for skin blemishes, aqua rehab, hemodiafiltration for dialysis, mammogram - hologic brand and unetixs peripheral vascular system for cardio.

Dr. Teodoro Gonzales Jr., the chief executive officer at Maayo Medical, lauded the venture of Primary Structures Corp. into the healthcare industry, saying that Cebu needed a healthcare facility which integrates and unifies units to provide holistic care.

Besides unveiling the new clinics, Maayo Medical also introduced its Maayo Card, a tap and pay reloadable card which can be used to pay for any services at Maayo Medical.

Dr. Clarissa Jane Pe, vice chair of dental sector committee of Cebu Health and Wellness Council (CHWC), earlier said, there is so much potential for the Philippines to be a leading player in medical tourism in Asia.

Market

But for the country to step up in its ranking of being third in the list of Asian destinations for global medical tourists, it needs to capture at least a million medical tourists per year.

Cosmetic surgery, wellness treatments, and dentistry are just some of the specialty care that the Philippines currently offers.

Cebu, she said, is in the best position to become a medical tourism hub because of the presence of medical institutions that are already recognized globally and are at par with that of Manila and counterparts in Asia.

This strong stance is further boosted by availability of direct connections to and from Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, LA, USA and Middle East, Pe noted.
