Batch 2002 stuns Kogi-Q to force rubber match

Batch 2002 San Remegio Properties lived to fight another day after a 52-44 win over 1990-1991 Kogi-Q in the quarterfinal round of Division B of the 22nd Sacred Heart-Ateneo Basketball Athletic Association (Shaabaa) tournament last Wednesday.

Other teams who extended their series are 2008 Cottonseed and 2005 Bizol in Division C and 1996 White Gold Club in Division B.

The No. 6 Cottonseed shocked defending champion and third seed 2007 Petron Global, 32-29; Bizol dominated the 2006 Prince Warehouse Club in the opening quarter en route to a 42-30 win; and White Gold Club pulled a 6656 win over the 1995 Savers Depot.

After an evenly-fought first two quarters, San Remegio surged to a 37-31 lead after outscoring Kogi-Q, 19-13, in the third period.

The six-point lead was enough for Batch 2002 to help them stay afloat against the repeated at- tempts of Batch 1990-1991 to turn the table around.

Kogi-Q will try to complete the upset when they face San Remegio anew this Sunday at the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu old campus at 7 p.m. White Gold will also go for another win against Savers Depot, while Bizol will face Prince Warehouse at 8:30 p.m.

On the other hand, Game 2 of the best-of-3 championship series between Harley Davidson and the defending champions Cebu Landmasters will be at the Magis Eagles Arena at the SHSAdC Canduman Campus at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. /
