GEORGE CLOONEY LATEST TO BE EMBROILED IN HARVEY WEINSTEIN DRAMA
A-list actor George Clooney has become the central figure in the Harvey Weinstein drama. “It’s indefensible,” Clooney told The Daily Beast. But Clooney’s former “ER” costar Vanessa Marquez doubts Clooney’s sincerity when he condemned the media mogul’s actions. “B. S. Clooney helped blacklist me when I spoke up about harassment on ‘ER.’ Women who don’t play the game lose career. I did,” Marquez tweeted. The Oscar winner denied the allegation.
The domino effect caused by the Harvey Weinstein drama continues. This time, it’s A-list actor George Clooney who becomes the central figure.
It all started when Clooney publicly condemned Weinstein, who has been accused by several women—including bigname actresses like Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan—of inappropriate behavior toward them.
“It’s indefensible. That’s the only word you can start with,” Clooney told The Daily Beast. “Harvey’s admitted to it, and it’s indefensible.”
Weinstein did not categorically admit to the sexual harassment but said he is willing to undergo rehabilitation. His lawyer has denied any claims of nonconsensual sex.
“I’ve known Harvey for 20 years. He gave me my first big break as an actor in ‘From Dusk till Dawn.’ He gave me my first big break as a director with ‘Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.’ We’ve had dinners, we’ve been on location together, we’ve had arguments. But I can tell you that I’ve never seen any of this behavior— ever,” Clooney also said.
But Clooney’s former “ER” co-star Vanessa Marquez doubts Clooney’s sincerity when he condemned Weinstein’s actions.
“B.S. Clooney helped blacklist me when I spoke up about harassment on ‘ER.’ Women who don’t play the game lose (their) career. I did,” Marquez tweeted.
The Oscar-winner denied such allegation.
“I had no idea Vanessa was blacklisted. I take her at her word. I was not a writer or a producer or a director on that show. I had nothing to do with casting. I was an actor and only an actor,” Clooney told E! News.
“If she was told I was involved in any decision about her career then she was lied to. The fact that I couldn’t affect her career is only surpassed by the fact that I wouldn’t,” he added.
A few days ago, Ben Affleck was forced to apologize to actress Hilarie Burton on Twitter. This, after a 2003 video footage of Affleck inappropriately hugging Burton surfaced online.
The video became viral following Affleck’s statement condemning Weinstein, which read in part: “I’m saddened and angry that a man who I worked with used his position of power to intimidate, sexually harass and manipulate many women over decades.”
Affleck’s younger brother Casey Affleck has also been accused of sexual harassment by two women.
