Mandaue City Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing will release today the cash reward to the person who provided information on the whereabouts of Jessie Largo, who was killed during an encounter with the police last Monday.

Quisumbing said they are now coordinating with the police for the turnover of the money. He declined to say how much the City will give the informant.

“We are already coordinating with the police on how to release the reward money that we promised for the capture of the suspect in the murder in Talisay City a few months ago,” said Quisumbing.

Largo was tagged as the main suspect in the killing of John Ronli Calizar, son of Philippine Information Agency 7 employee Ferliza Contratista, in Talisay last August.

The Mandaue City Government offered the cash reward for any information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect considering that Calizar is a Mandauehanon.

“I really understand that some people may have misgivings about what the police do, but I hope they also understand that the police are some of the bravest, most courageous people that you will ever meet,” he added.

Early yesterday morning, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña visited and gave financial assistance to PO3 David Naraja Jr., the policeman shot by Largo during an operation in Talisay last Monday.

Osmeña said that since the Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital waived all the hospital fees of Naraja, the Cebu City Government will be ready to shoulder other expenses he may need help with.

The mayor assured that the City, through the City Hospitalization Assistance and Medicines Program, can extend even up to P500,000 to any policeman injured in the line of duty. Osmeña handed P10,000 in personal financial assistance to Naraja.

“It’s always been that way. Contrary to what my critics will say, I’m always supportive of the police. Sila kutob ra sila sa laway, I pay for their legal defense, I pay for things where they can’t get support and I don’t announce the support I give,” he said.
