Mike Rama’s gambit

Mike’s body language shows his intention to actively participate in the 2019 elections

During a recent gathering, most barangay captains allied with Barug Team Rama floated the idea of an Edgardo Labella-Edu Rama tandem for the 2019 polls. But when “has-been” mayor Michael Rama reportedly knew about it, he strongly opposed it saying he still can be counted upon. Mike is still interested to run.

Well, Mike’s body language shows his intention to actively participate in the 2019 elections despite his being named as a drug protector by President Rodrigo Duterte. His frequent visits to the barangays and handshaking activities, his holding of press conferences about nonsense issues and his “palabas” like manning the traffic and even dancing in the middle of the street are indications he is interested to regain control of City Hall. In the first place, why would he do those gimmicks? But poor Mike, nobody seems interested in them.

If I were Mike Rama, I will no longer engage in politics until the drug lord accusation is cleared by the President himself. Mike tried to find connections so he can talk with the president to clear his name but to no avail. Reports say his name is no longer in the new list of narco politicians. Is he already cleared? I doubt it. He will still carry the drug-lord accusation unless cleared by the president himself.

His defeat against his political mentor turned arch-rival was a lesson for him. It was a humbling experience. I could tell he got drunk with power and became arrogant like his rival. Imagine, he scolded and lectured even the executives of big companies. He treated his political supporters like his slaves, even City Hall employees and department heads, teachers, barangay captains, tanods and traffic enforcers. He sang songs even in occasions not fit for it. Maayo ra ba kun maayo mokanta. Yabag ra ba.

During the burial of Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, Mike was seen roaming around the church just to get the crowd’s attention. He was seen directing church workers to provide chairs to the crowd. A public official commented, “Why doesn’t he just stay in the corner?

I would advise Mike to stop his gimmicks because he looks funny. And people might misconstrue him not only as a drug protector as alleged but also a drug user. Pahuway lang usa Mike sa pulitika ug pabilin lang nga magpakahilum.

“Ayaw pangaway kay basin ang tawo nga imong awayon maoy makatabang kanimo sa umaabot nga mga adlaw.” This was the frequent advise of the late Cardinal Vidal to his peers in the church as revealed Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Dennis Villarojo in his homily during the requiem mass for the late cardinal. Villarojo was Vidal’s personal secretary for a decade.

Many people, including hypocrite politicians, admired the good deeds and virtues of Cardinal Vidal. They all said that these are worth emulating. Since they praised Vidal for his good deeds, are our politicians especially that one in City Hall listening to Vidal’s advise to stop quarreling? I doubt. Wa man gani maminaw ni Vidal sa dihang buhi pa karon pa kahang patay na?
