136 TEAMS IN 6TH SUNSTAR FOOTBALL CUP
6th Edition of the SunStar Cup willl have 10 age group divisions on Nov. 4 and 5 at the Cebu City Sports Center Rivals Don Bosco Technological Center, Ateneo, Paref Springdale and USC-BED field multiple entries
The 6th SunStar Football Cup will kick off this Saturday at the Cebu City Sports Center with 136 teams joining, including a few from out-of-town.
Powerhouse Don Bosco Technological Center, which recently won the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., will field 26 teams, while rival Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu will also field multiple teams.
The two-day tournament will have the Players 7, 9, 11, Boys 13 and the Boys and Girls 15, 17 and 19 divisions. This Saturday, the divisions that will be played are the Players 7, 9, and 11 and the Girls 15, 17 and 19. On Sunday, it will be the turn of the Boys 15, 17 and 19 divisions.
For this year, the Boys 19 and Boys 13 divisions have the must number of entries at 20 each. DBTC is fielding four teams in the Boys 15, while the University of San Carlos-Basic Education Department, Giuseppe and Springdale are fielding two teams each.
In the Boys 19, Balamban and DBTC are fielding two teams each.
The Players 9 division has 19 teams, including seven from DBTC and two from Springdale, while the Players 11 division has 18 teams, including four from DBTC. The youngest division--Players 7--has eight teams, four from Bright Academy and two from DBTC.
On the other hand, girls football powerhouse teams SHS-Ateneo de Cebu and St. Theresa’s college will renew their rivalry in the Girls 17 and 19 divisions, which has six and nine teams, respectively.
Aside from the Cebu-based teams, the event also attracted entries from Ormoc, Maasin City and Xavier School of Manila, which is a first-time participant.
This year’s tournament will also have a photo contest for enthusiasts for the first time. /
