Southwestern University PHINMA will send their faculty for further studies to strengthen their roster. Since the new management took over in 2016, the university has been providing its teachers with more opportunities to pursue graduate education.
To help their students become the best that they can be, Southwestern University (SWU) PHINMA strengthened its faculty line up by providing opportunities for them to pursue graduate education in the country and abroad.
Since 2016, the SWU new management has encouraged the faculty to pursue further studies, shouldering all academic fees, including allowance and accommodation expenses.
Wilfredo Tui Jr. and Rhomeljustein Redoble, College of Rehabilitative Sciences faculty members, recently returned from Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU) after completing the Master of Rehabilitative Science and Master of Science in Rehabilitation of People with Developmental Disabilities programs, respectively. Redoble completed the program with an honorary distinction and was awarded outstanding academic achievement for the health and social sciences faculty category.
Colleagues from the same department, Leonedes Catibod and John Michael Macaso, just left last month for HKPU, while Raul Ugalde and Sergio Sarza Jr. are now both in Loma Linda University in California. They are all pursuing similar graduate degree programs to strengthen the faculty line up of the Rehabilitative Sciences department.
Doctorate
Recently, Junhel Dalanon from the College of Dentistry left for Tokushima University in Japan for a doctorate in dentistry. Meanwhile, Dr. Mary Joy Villalon-dela Pena from the School of Medicine is finishing her masters in Health Professions Education at the University of Illinois-Chicago, as Jo-ann Belotindos continues to pursue the Master in Pharmacy Practice program at the International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Medical technologist Merlyn Baraclan is also in Thailand’s Mahidol University finishing her Master of Science in Immunology degree, while Anthony Joseph Mercado is set to leave to start the Master of Nursing Science program in the same institution.
Dr. Mei Alguire of the School of Medicine and Sacred Heart Hospital is also heading to the United States to work in the family medicine department of the University of California, San Francisco to expand her experience and expertise.
Fifteen health sciences faculty are also enrolled in the Master in Professional Health Education at the University of the Philippines. The program has started this semester, and classes are held in the SWU campus using a blended format with faculty members from UP.
“In line with PHINMA education’s mission of ‘Making Lives Better Through Education’ we are making sure that we have competent teachers to be able to serve the students better,” said Albert Gamboa, SWU chief operations officer.
