Tumulak to cemetery visitors: observe security measures

- RTF

Those who will be paying their respects to their departed loved ones on All Saints and Souls Day on Wednesday and Thursday are reminded to strictly follow security measures.

Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak, deputy mayor for police matters, asked the public not to bring sharp and flammable objects, and alcoholic beverages, among others inside the cemetery.

“We want to ensure the solemnity and safety of our visiting public, that’s why we’re asking for everybody’s cooperation,” he told SunStar Cebu.

As for security and emergency preparations, Tumulak said that all systems are now in place.

He said the City Government has heightened its security measures by tapping not only the police, but also the barangay tanods and intelligence network to help ensure the solemnity of Wednesday and Thursday.

Ambulances with emergency teams will also be placed on standby in all public and private cemeteries in the city.

Those coming with their own vehicles are asked to keep the entrances and exits of the graveyards free from any obstruction to allow easy access in case of emergency.

The councilor also asked the public to help ensure safety by reporting to the emergency response centers in the cemeteries any suspicious persons or activities immediately.

The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office conducted a preliminary inspection in some major cemeteries two weeks ago to assess their safety, security and sanitary preparations.

Tumulak said another set of inspections will be conducted on Nov. 1 and 2. /
