Republic Act 10743 (An act declaring the fifth day of October every year as the National Teachers’ Day) and Unesco have designated Oct. 5 of every year as National Teachers’ Day and World Teachers’ Day to honor teachers and the central role they play in guiding children, youth and adults through the life-long learning process. City Savings Bank (CitySavings) honored thousands of educators through various events during the month-long celebration of the National Teachers’ Month (NTM) from Sept. 5 to Oct. 5.
Last Sept. 23, the bank co-presented “Titser Ko, Garbo Ko! Teachers’ Got Talent,” together with the Department of Education (DepEd)-Central Visayas, the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), Mega Cebu, and the Coalition for Better Education (CBE).
The elimination round held at the Cube Wing of SM Seaside City Cebu in Cebu City showcased the various talents of Cebuano teachers representing schools from the local government units (LGUs) comprising Mega Cebu.
“This competition aims to honor and showcase the talents and creativity that our teachers have outside the classroom,” said CBE executive director Luchi Flores.

Extra mile
Teacher-clients were delighted when City Savings bankers from over 100 branches nationwide went the extra mile during the bank-wide NTM celebration last Sept. 30 with fun games, snacks, refreshments and personalized freebies.
“Thank you CitySavings for celebrating Teachers’ Month with us. We felt welcomed and loved,” said Teacher Lecar Marie Maghanoy from Tubod National High School, Cebu.
As a recognized collaborating partner of the NTM Coordinating Council (NTMCC) since 2015, CitySavings was also given the opportunity to join the culmination activity spearheaded by DepEd Central Office last Oct. 5 at Ibalong Centrum for Recreation, Legazpi City, Albay.
The activity carried the theme, “Gurong Pilipino: Kaakbay sa Progreso.”
About 6,000 teachers from different regions nationwide came to celebrate.
“CitySavings has always been a great partner of DepEd in the implementation of its programs and projects” said Sorsogon Province Schools Division Superintendent Loida Nedia.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones, who hailis from a family of teachers, commended the Filipino educators and he emphasized the importance of continuous learning.
“I have heard stories of our teachers particularly their hard work and perseverance in this profession. We have to prepare students to accept change, to live with change, plan and react to change in a positive manner,” said Briones.
