■ MANDAUE LAUNCHES SHORT FILM CONTEST ABOUT BUTUANON RIVER

To raise awareness on the need to rehabilita­te the Butuanon River, the Mandaue City Government is now accepting video entries from students and non-students for a short film contest about the waterway. The City, according to Araceli Barlam, chief of the City Environmen­t and Natural Resources Office, has lined up several other activities to let the public know about the current situation of the Butuanon River in preparatio­n for the 4th Internatio­nal River Summit in November 2018. Deadline for submission of entries will be Nov. 16. First prize for the non-student category is P75,000. Another P15,000 prize will be given to the winner of the People’s Choice Award.

Archt. Araceli Barlam, chief of the City Environmen­t and Natural Resources Office, said that the activity is part of raising the public’s awareness on the need to rehabilita­te the river.

The City has lined up several other activities to inform the public about the situation of the Butuanon River and in preparatio­n for the 4th Internatio­nal River Summit in November 2018.

The City started accepting entries yesterday. The deadline will be on Nov. 16.

The video entries may either be a documentar­y, animation or docu-drama running for a mini- mum of three minutes and maximum of five minutes.

Only one entry per contestant is allowed. It can either be in any dialect and language, but English subtitles are required.

Interested amateur and profession­al filmmakers can get the applicatio­n form at the City Public Informatio­n Office.

For the non-student category, the first prize is P75,000, P55,000 for the second prize and P35,000 for the third prize. Another P15,000 will be given to the winner of the People’s Choice Award.

Barlam said that P10,000 will be given to the 10 finalists, which will be on top of the cash prize that the winners will receive.

For the student catergory, the first prize is P55,000, P45,000 for the second prize, and P25,000 for the third prize.

The same cash prize will be given to the winners of the People’s Choice Award and top 10 finalists.
