AFTER THE LOVE IS GONE

-

When Felix Pastorfide Taytayan, ex-lover and suspect in the killing of PO1 Mae Sasing, was asked if he killed the later, the only word he could muster was ‘Dili’ (No)

With his intention to bring back their love during their college days, Felix Pastorfide Taytayan tried his luck to revive his relationship with PO1 Mae Sasing. But it’s one love story that bungled up into a tragedy.

Yesterday, the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) filed a murder case against Taytayan, 32, after he was tagged as the main suspect in the killing of Sasing while the latter was on his way home last Oct. 31.

Senior Supt. Roberto Alanas, director of MCPO, said they also included the unidentified accomplice of Taytayan in the filing of the case, who served as the motorcycle driver.

The inquest proceeding was conducted by Prosecutor Henry Pascua at the Mandaue City Hall of Justice.

Taytayan covered his face with a yellow t-shirt when he entered the MCPO headquarters yesterday morning.

His face cover was removed when he was presented to the media around 11 a.m. He bowed his head and cried.

He neither said anything about the incident nor share anything about his relationship with Sasing. He only answered, “Dili,” when asked if he shot Sasing.

Alanas said Taytayan and Sasing had a relationship when they were both in college taking up criminology, but their relationship ended in 2007.

“With the intention of the suspect na babalik but hindi na pwede dahil may pamilya na ang ating police na namatay... Nagkaroon ng galit kasi gusto niya makipagbalikan pero di na pwede (to continue their relationship, he was told that it will not happen again because the slain policewoman already has a family. There was hatred after he was rejected),” said Alanas.

“Hindi matanggap ng suspek na hindi sila nagkatuluyan. Siya ay sobrang in love sa babae (The suspect could not accept that they will no longer be together. He loved the woman so much),” he said.

Sasing, who was still wearing her police uniform, was killed while she was driving her mo- torcycle on her way home to Barangay Jugan, Consolacion by two persons, who were also riding a motorcycle, in Barangay Basak, Mandaue.

Members of the City Intelligence Branch, Investigation and Detective Management Branch, Mandaue Police Station (MPS) 3 in coordination with the Madridejos Police Station arrested Taytayan in his house, where he was believed hiding, in Barangay Kaungkod in Madridejos last Friday morning.

They were not able to recover the gun and the motorcycle used in the crime scene, and they are still trying to locate it, said Alanas.

MCPO got three witnesses who filed their affidavit for the case against the suspect.

After their relationship ended in 2007, Taytayan and Sasing were seen once again talking in 2015 near the victim’s house. Based on the affidavit of one of the witnesses, Alanas said that the witness saw Taytayan and Sasing talking in Consolacion a day before she was killed and another witness saw him in the crime scene.

MCPO showed the suspect to the witnesses and they positively identified him that he was in the crime scene when Sasing was killed.

Alanas said they got a “strong evidence” against Taytayan.

Taytayan was temporarily detained at the MPS 3 holding cell.

In a press statement from the City Public Information Office, City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing congratulated MCPO for swiftly bringing the killer to justice.

“As I said, I take crime committed in this City personally and all the more so when it is committed against the very people tasked to keep the peace,” said Quisumbing. /
