United keeps perfect run in Corporate Cup

Unitec Pipes remained perfect in the Cebu Architects’ Basketball Club (CABC) 1st Corporate Cup after a 70-68 win over Island Paints in a battle of unbeaten teams last Sunday at the Benedicto College Gym.

Brian Acebedo led Unitec Pipes with 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and a steal. Ferdinand Tiro added 17 points along with six boards and a steal, while Dodut Dilao had 10 markers.

Rhyan Pepito had a huge game for Island Paints with 14 points and 18 rebounds. He also dished out five assists, had two steals and a block. Alexander Vidal was Island Paints top scorer with 18 points. Brian Donasco also chipped in 15 points, while Mito Parba added 10.

Davies Paints, in the meantime, squeaked past Boysen Paints, 74-73.

Ayi Armenion led Davies Paints’ charge with 26 points and six rebounds. Josephril Partosa added 10 points.

Criz Matunonog scored 17 points to lead Boysen Paints in scoring. He also had seven boards and four assists. Chad Go and Darren Morandante added 14 and 13 points, respective­ly. Meanwhile, Kalsi beat Phelps Dodge, 63-53. Unitec Pipes remained as the only undefeated team in the tournament and is at the top of the standings at 4-0. Island Paints suffered its first loss of the tournament and dropped to 3-1 at second. Kalsi is third with 2-2, Davies Paints, Boysen Paints and Phelps Dodge have identical 1-3 slates. /
