It’s about time, Mayor Tom

Warranty – a written statement that promises the good of a product and states that the maker is responsible for repairing or replacing the product usually for a certain period of time after its purchase. (Meriam-Webster Dictionary)

In business, a warranty is covered by an insurance that will pay for the cost of repair or replacement of a defective unit. Sad to say that despite advances in technology, some big companies, like Samsung, don’t honor warranty in this country. A case in point is the Samsung J7 I got from Smartcom.

I brought it to the Samsung Service Center for repairs. In less than a minute, the technicians returned the cellphone to me saying they won’t fix it even it’s still within the one year warranty. So, what’s covered by the warranty? They could not provide a definite answer. So, the next move is to bring the issue before the Department of Trade and Industry. Or, return the unit to Smart.

So the next time you buy a cellphone from Samsung or receive a retention from telcos, don’t rely on what they say. Get a copy of the warranty.

Although Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña is known to be arrogant, he acts on complaints swiftly even against giant companies. So, Vic Enterprises in Mabolo, Cebu City has to be shutdown if it doesn’t comply and correct the several violations, like, air and dust pollution caused by the movements of huge hauler trucks.

The traffic problem in this area in Mabolo, which is the main artery from the north, has been there for sometime. It becomes horrible when huge cargo trucks load and unload bags of cement and other construction materials on the roadside.

Months after Mayor Tomas assumed his post, steel barriers were put up on the road across Vic Enterprises. But it was a temporary solution to the traffic problem because trucks drivers won’t observe traffic rules and regulations. Worse, they think they own the road.

In going to Cebu City from Mandaue, I avoid passing the area because of traffic caused by hauler trucks parked on the roadside. But I refuse to believe talks that the threat to close Vic Enterprises had something to do with politics. Its owner allegedly supported the mayor’s opponent in the last polls.
