The southbound lane of N. Bacalso Ave., starting along the corner of F. Llamas St. near a fast food chain, will be close starting today as civil works of the ongoing P638-million underpass project in the area moves to the other side of the road.

The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) expects heavy traffic on several roads near N. Bacalso Ave. and advised motorist to refrain from passing by the area.

Engr. Roy dela Cruz, project engineer of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7, said the northbound lane, or the lane in front of a supermarket, will be open.

“We will reverse the closure starting tomorrow (today),” he said.

He said that work on the excavation might be 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Dela Cruz said that southbound private and public vehicles including jeepneys will be diverted to alternative roads that include Katipunan St., M. Go-

chan St and Caimito St.

The alternative roads will be two way.

Buses and other trucks will have to use the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR).

CCTO Operations Chief Francisco Ouano said private vehicles can also access the CSCR to lessen the volume of vehicles on the alternative roads.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña said that the DPWH 7 and CCTO can divert as many vehicles to the CSCR as they want.

Ouano said signs will be put in the affected area to guide motorists.

“We expect the traffic will be heavy in the area, so we will divert other vehicles. If they don’t want to be caught in the congestion, they should avoid the area,” he said. /
