Cold weather travel essentials

- JOANNA CUENCO joanna.cuenco@gmail.com

I’m still away at the time of this writing, and the last couple of weeks have been a struggle skincare-wise. It’s nearly winter in the US now, and temperatures have dropped to zero degrees Celsius in some areas I’ve been in. In case you’re also traveling soon, here’s what helped keep my skin in check.

Nivea Cream

I brought a few different moisturizers with me, but some of them could not hold up against the cold and wind. Only good old Nivea face cream stopped the peeling on my face. This is normally too heavy for me in Cebu weather, but I applied this liberally at night in the US and it really comforted my skin.

Carmex lip balm

I also brought several lip balms with me, but my usual go-to’s could not stop my lips from chapping very badly here. I bought Carmex at the drugstore and it helped more than anything I had, though I still needed to reapply every hour or so in Colorado where elevation is high and temperatures are low. Tip: Get the tube instead of the stick. You get more product for the same price.

Ginvera olive oil

Multipurpose products are always good when traveling. I use this as a body oil after showering at night and as a hair moisturizer after blow drying my hair. I bought this particular one in Singapore, but there are others available locally.

Estee Lauder Daywear cream

I have mentioned this before, but I feel it’s worth mentioning again. After a few days in the US, I gave up trying to wear any sort of base when I went out. My face would patch from dryness with either my BB cushion or powder foundation. I would step out with just this or the Clarins moisturizer I last mentioned and it kept the gross patches away until evening.
