Amit loses in ABC title fight
Salatiel Amit absorbed his second straight defeat after a close split decision against Carlo Caesar Peñalosa last Friday night in 10-round World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council (ABC) Silver flyweight fight.
The fight was the main event of the boxing show that highlighted the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) Convention in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
It was a very close and competitive fight, and two judges saw it 96-94 for Peñalosa, while the other had it 96-94 for Amit.
“We can have a rematch with them but we will see if they will agree to a rematch. It could have gone either way, we could have won that fight. It was a very close fight. I thought we won but two judges thought otherwise. We are proud of Amit’s performance compared to the last one. He has improved greatly,” said Omega Pro Sports International (OPSI) vice-president Jerome Calatrava told SunStar Cebu.
Amit has dropped his second straight fight following a ninth-round stoppage loss to world-ranked Froilan Saludar in June.
“We will make him train even more and make him fight again three months from now. The kind of fight we want for him is a fight that will test his skills,” said Calatrava.
Amit fell to 10- 4- 2 with seven knockouts, while Peñalosa improved to 10- 1 with three knockouts. /
