UV, USJ-R make semis

Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) powerhouse team University of the Visayas Green Lancers and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars advanced to the semifinal round of the 2017 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) 3x3 Visayas Eliminatio­n at the University of San Carlos Gym.

The returning Fletcher Galvez proved to be too hot to handle as he led the way for the Jaguars by scoring 21 points. Miguel Gastador contribute­d 12 points and Cesafi 2017 MVP Jaybie Mantilla finished with 10 points in their 50-34 win over the Southweste­rn University (SWU) Cobras.

UV team captain Joshue Segumpan showed his touch from the three point line and Rey Suerte barrelled through the defense of the Herocor College of Roxas City as the Green Lancers marched to the semifinal round following a 50-25 win.

Segumpan topscored with 21 points all coming from beyond the arc, Suerte added 17 and Jerome Napao finished with 12 points. Anthony Gonzaga lead Hercor scorers with 11 points.

Both UV and USJ-R swept their four eliminatio­n round games and are on their collision course for the final round.

In the other quarterfin­al matches, PMI College of Tagbilaran City, Bohol was the lone non-Cebu team to make the Final 4 following a 50-23 win over the Salazar Colleges of Science ans Institute of Technology Skyblazers, while the University of Cebu Webmasters eliminated the all-high school Don Bosco Technologi­cal Center Greywolves 45-32 in the other match. /
