Slain female cop laid to rest
The seven-year-old daughter of PO2 Mae Sasing wore a police uniform, carried a revolver’s replica and a framed picture of her slain mother yesterday afternoon.
Sasing’s brother-in-law PO2 Ryan Diamada said that Veinna Gwyneth Locsin has not fully comprehended her mother’s death.
When asked about her mother, the girl smiled and said, “I am proud of her.”
The girl has not thought of following in her mother’s footsteps. She wants to be a dentist.
Sasing of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO)-City Public Safety Company (CPSC) was buried in a private cemetery in Liloan yesterday afternoon.
Before her remains were brought to the memorial park, a mass was held at the San Roque Parish in Barangay Yati, Liloan.
Fr. Ronie Gumagay, who officiated the mass, discussed forgiveness in his homily, saying it is a Christian virtue.
“Andam usab kita mopasaylo. Seguro karon lisod pa kaayo tungod sa panghitabo, pero dili kana imposible,” he said.
The LCPO honored the 31-year- old officer with a 21-gun salute.
Most of Sasing’s relatives wore white shirts with messages, “Mae, you will always remain in our hearts.” and “We love you, PO1 Mae Sasing.”
Sasing’s common-law husband Marvin Locsin was calm and, executed his last salute to her before she was finally laid to rest.
“Tapang mo (You are brave),” he said.
Sasing and Locsin were scheduled to tie the knot next month.
She also planned to transfer to a police unit in Palawan, her partner’s home province.
Sasing was shot dead while she was driving her motorcycle on her way home to Jugan, Consolacion town last Oct. 31.
The Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) operatives arrested Sasing’s former boyfriend, Felix Taytayan, in Barangay Kaungkod, Madridejos, Bantayan Island last Nov. 3, after the evidence gathered led to him as the main suspect.
MCPO Director Roberto Alanas said Taytayan allegedly became mad at Sasing after she refused to rekindle their relationship.
But Taytayan, whose relationship with Sasing ended in 2007 when they were still criminology students, denied plotting her death.
His colleagues on a ship where he served as an apprentice have told reporters that they did not believe he killed Sasing. They said Taytayan was in the vessel in Pier 3 in Cebu City when the murder happened.
Alanas stood pat on the arrest of Taytayan, saying the latter can defend himself in court.
Sasing’s commander at LCPO-CPSC, Chief Insp. Francisco Villanueva, said he will miss Sasing. He said Sasing was hardworking and jolly person.
PO3 Wilfredo Ybañez of LCPO information office said that Sasing had never declined any of his work-related requests.
Diamada said the family will not stop seeking justice for Sasing.
