Damage was pegged at P350T; cause of blaze remains unknown

An afternoon fire hit a storage warehouse for woodcraft and shellcraft in Sitio Brotherhood, Bontores St., Barangay Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City yesterday.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) 7 received the alarm at 4:12 p.m. and was raised to first alarm.

Fire investigators traced the origin of the fire to the warehouse owned by Robert Chan.

FO3 Leo Pastrana, fire investigator, said that the fire came from the production area where workers would paint the fashion accessories.

“We will still invite Erimeo Apawan and Sabas Compassion, both painters, to shed light on what caused the fire,” Pastrana said.

Damage was pegged at P350, 000. There were no reported injuries. It was placed under control at 4:45 p.m. and was declared out at 6:59 p.m.

Firetrucks from neighboring barangays responded to the blaze, but some had a hard time maneuvering in the area because of the traffic.

“The big firetrucks were stuck in the highway so only the penetrator trucks managed to get inside. We conducted engine relay, where we interconnected hoses to provide water in the interior portion,” Pastrana said. /
