Children’s Games shifts to Cebu City today

-

Following a successful weekend in Carcar City last week, the Philippine Sports Commission ( PSC), is bringing the twoday Children’s Games Sports for Peace event in Cebu City today at the the Cebu City Sports Center starting at 7 a. m. today.

PSC commissioner Ramon Fernandez said they are expecting more than 2,000 kids coming from the 80 barangays of Cebu City.

“Aside from the kids from the barangays, we will also have children from the Muslim community and the street children of the Department of Social Welfare and Development ( DSWD). We are expected four times the number from that of Carcar City and quadruple the fun,” Fernandez said.

PSC will hold quick training lessons and tournaments for 14 sport events, namely basketball, volleyball, swimming, athletics, gymnastics, archery, judo, air rifle shooting, boxing, karatedo, arnis, badminton, table tennis and weightlifting. The Cebu City Dancesports team will also introduce the event to the kids.

“On Sunday, the kids from the mountain barangays will be coming over to engage and interact with their peers in the lowland villages in playing Filipino and parlor games. There will be play- acting, storytelling and cultural dance presentation to give the kids a glimpse of our cultural side,” added Project director Nonnie Lopez.

PSC had earlier staged the Children’s Games in the mountain barangays of Cebu City that included Guba, Sudlon, Buhisan and Adlaon where more than 1,000 kids experienced the 2- day of sporting activity.

The Children’s Games will be brought to the other cities in the Visayas including Dumaguete, Ormoc, Iloilo, Bago City among others to expose the children early to various sports activities.
