USC kicks off City Olympics with 5 golds in taekwondo

Former champions University of San Carlos Basic Education Department (USC-Bed) started its bid in the 27th Cebu City Olympics on a strong note, thanks to taekwondo, in the Robinsons’ Galleria-Cebu yesterday.

USC- Bed snatched five gold medals and two silvers in the opening day of competitio­n, all from the taekwondo poomsae event.

Lee Robiegayle Navales won the gold medal in the secondary girls’ individual A, beating Germaine Ernestine Besañes and Kissha Barro.

Aidaine Krishia Laxa chipped in a gold medal from secondary girls’ individual B, outlasting Shiela Mae Lepon and Jamie Mary Lourdes Morales.

Navales, Laxa and Chenena dela Fuente grabbed another gold medal in the secondary girls’ poomsae event. Dela Fuente snagged her second gold medal with partner Dennis Francis Arquero in the mixed pair event.

Romeo Reyes, Dennis Francis Arquero and Shane Nasayao handed the fifth gold medal for USC-Bed from the boys’ second- ary team event.

It was the University of Cebu (UC) that stood out in the elementary division with three gold medals, two silvers and one bronze.

UC’s Fiona Sedullo bagged the gold medal in the elementary girls’ individual A, outpointin­g Klyseil Nuñez of Inayawan Elementary School. Altheal Rosel captured a gold medal in the girls’ individual B. Emmanuel Seanrick Garces and Fiona Sedullo won UC’s third gold medal in the elementary mixed pair.

The other gold medalists in taekwondo were Mary Owynn Arnosa of St. Theresa’s College, Red Enzo Rubi of St. Paul Learning Center, Johann Abelard Concepcion, and Xander Palacpac. /
