Eredera lifts Minglanill­a over Talisay in Gullas Cup

Lyle Eredera made sure to leave a lasting impression as he led Minglanill­a to a 77-71 victory over defending champion Talisay City in the Samsam Gullas Cup Season 2 at the Minglanill­a Sports Complex last Saturday.

Eredera scored 18 points, grabbed 21 boards and dished out one assist to help last season’s runner-up Minglanill­a overcome Talisay City in the opening day of competitio­n.

Sibonga, meanwhile, slipped past Carcar City, 84-82. Harold Padin had an all-around game to lead the winning team with 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

In the other game, Arthur Padilla connected 18 points as City of Naga clobbered San Fernando, 81-58.

The Inter-cities/Municipali­ties Tournament organized by 1st District Congressma­n Samsam Gullas Cup is for 20-under players for six teams representi­ng all towns of Cebu’s First District.

Bracket A has Talisay City, City of Naga and Carcar City, while Bracket B is compose of towns Minglanill­a, San Fernando and Sibonga.

All six teams will play a single round-robin in the first round and in the second round, the teams from each bracket will face each other.

The top two teams of each bracket will advance to the crossover semifinals, while the finals will be a best of three affair. The champion of the tournament will win P80,000, while the runners-up will get P40,000, P30,000 and P10,000 courtesy of Emil’s Fresh Chicken.

One of the organizers Degoy Villanueva said that this season, no Cesafi, UAAP and NCAA players are allowed to play.

“The league is giving more chances to the undiscover­ed players who are not yet part of a varsity team,” he said. /
