Solutions for transportation woes

- KARL ARIES EMERSON F. CABILAO

One cannot blame people for being impatient. For so many years now, Cebuanos (well, Filipinos in general) have been yearning to free themselves from the traffic curse that has made land travel in cities horrible for every commuter. Feasibility studies have supposedly been made but nothing came out of it. Add to that the politicians’ refusal to heed the advice or hire planning experts to solve traffic woes. Traveling to other countries with efficient train and bus systems often makes us green with envy. All of us want efficient public transportation now. Zup asks readers what mode of public transport they would like to have if this can be implemented tomorrow or next week. A hybrid bus system in Cebu would be a great and environment-friendly solution. Riding a bus brings a more comfortable experience to Cebuano commuters compared to the jeepneys. Although given the mostly narrow roads that we have, this system would need complementary transportation, especially for those living far from the main roads where these buses would operate. RONALD DARREN NANONG, 22, COMPUTER ENGINEERING GRADUATE In my opinion the implementation of the Metro Rail Transit System (MRT) will be very efficient for the Cebuanos in terms of speed, comfort and safety. The MRT can carry more passengers compared to other transit systems. Everyone must sacrifice and endure the cons of these modifications that could cause inconvenience to commuters, but as Robin Sharma says, “Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end.” JANN PAULINE COMODA, 21, ARCHITECTURE STUDENT (USC)
