Borbon garners 7 awards
The northern town of Borbon garnered seven awards for various health programs it implemented last year during the Department of Health (DOH) 7’s health summit and awarding ceremony last Wednesday.
The town was recognized for its performance in terms of child immunization, blood donation, contraceptive prevalence rate, exclusive breastfeeding for infants up to six months, and mental health, among others.
Borbon also received a plaque of appreciation for its support of DOH 7’s “All for Health, Health for All” program, a health agenda of the Duterte administration.
Borbon Mayor Noel Dotillos said they plan to raise their budget for health services next year.
Dotillos yesterday told SunStar Cebu that their awards were attributed to the town’s full implementation of the agency’s programs.
He said to ensure that all children are immunized, services were delivered in the purok level. He said that number of immunized children rose from 84 percent in 2015 to 87 percent in 2016.
Dotillos said they’ve been holding several blood drives on an annual basis to attract donors. He said they’ve secured 500 bags of blood since last January with donors receiving either kilos of rice or T-shirts.
The mayor also boasted about the town’s programs to improve mental health with the help of a nongovernment organization.
Dotillos said that he has made health the number one priority in his governance. /
