CCPO gets 6 body cameras for anti-crime operations

-

Aiming for transparency during police operations, SugboTek Inc. donated six body-worn cameras to the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) yesterday morning.

CCPO Director Senior Supt. Joel Doria said that the body cameras will disprove claims of abuse by police officers during operations.

“This is permanent. All footages during operations will be forwarded to the database. So the doubts about our police officers will be answered because we now have proof,” he said.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald Dela Rosa ordered not to delete or edit the footages or else the police officer concerned will be facing an administrative case.

Police in Cebu City will be the first in Central Visayas to wear body cameras.

This is also even before the passage of House Bill 2741 authored by Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon, which seeks to require the use of body cameras for police.

The cameras, Doria said, will be used by operatives from the Special Weapons and Tactics, City Intelligence Branch, and different police stations.

Cloyd Dedicatoria, managing director of SugboTek Inc., said that the body cameras are shock- proof and waterproof.

“The footage will be sent to our Guardian database. The cameras’ features include a global positioning system, night mode, la- ser, flashlight and a radio, which can communicate with the police station,” he said.

The body cameras are worth more than P20,000 each.
