Champ vs. champ take center stage today

-

One team is fresh off a successful campaign in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) indoor volleyball competition, the other itching to defend the beach volleyball title.

After having won the men’s volleyball title of Cesafi, Southwestern University (SWU) will right away plunge into beach volleyball action against a well-rested defending champion University of the Visayas (UV).

“Maningkamot lang mi ani kay wala kaayo namo napreparahan ang beach volley kay mas naka focus mi sa indoor,” said SWU coach Dave Arreza.

SWU will be represented by Dave Cabaron, Mark Kevin Petancio and Raul Consad.

UV, on the other hand, opened its campaign on a strong note, beating the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 218, 21-16 last Thursday at the Fort San Pedro sand court.

The two teams will open the collegiate matches today.

Meanwhile, still licking the wounds from their double loss in the indoor volleyball, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) is hoping to make up for it in beach volleyball and started its campaign with a straight set win over Cebu Institute of Technology University. “We’ve only had two days of practice all in all so we will just have to fight hard on game day and take it one game at a time,” said head coach Grace Antigua.
