No major contraband found in female dorm

-

A bucket of Vulcaseal, ball pens, razors, CDs and medicines were confiscated from some detainees in the female dormitory of LapuLapu City Jail (LCJ) during a surprise inspection yesterday.

Personnel of the LCJ coordinated with the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for the operation, which started at 6 a.m..

Senior Jail Officer 4 Marila Mabalod, jail warden, said no major contraband, such as illegal drugs and electronic gadgets, was found in the detention cells.

There were a total of 256 female inmates in LCJ as of yesterday. During the operation, the female detainees were told to leave their detention cells.

A trained dog from the K9 unit was used to inspect the cells.

“Wala mi kita og major nga contraband (We did not find any major contraband),” Mabalod said in an interview.

The officers confiscated other items like forks, spoons, disposable lighters and pointed objects.

Mabalod said no cellphones were found.

“We are very strict when it comes to the security and safety of our personnel and at the same time of our inmates,” she said.

Unlike other greyhound operations, several medicines were confiscated from the female detainees.

The jail warden explained that inmates who got sick were given prescriptions by a doctor during a checkup authorized by a court order. As to the medicines confiscated, she said these were bought over-the-counter by their relatives and brought inside during visits.
