Police officers reminded owners of unlicensed and improvised guns to surrender these to the authorities at once.

They pointed to the dangers of holding on to these firearms, after a 14-year-old boy accidentally shot his older brother, 16, using an improvised .22 pistol that belonged to their uncle. This happened at 9:30 p.m. Saturday in Don Pedro Rodriguez, Bogo City.

“The brother allegedly did not know that the gun was loaded,” said SPO1 Alexis Camelo Villacrucis of the Bogo Police Station.

The owners of unlicensed and improvised guns are advised to surrender their firearms to the police.

SPO1 Alexis Camelo Villacrucis of Bogo Police Station said that these guns pose danger, especially to children.

Last Saturday night, a 16-yearold boy landed in the hospital after he was accidentally shot by his younger brother, who used an improvised .22 caliber pistol that belonged to their uncle.

The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. in Barangay Don Pedro Rodriguez, Bogo City.

Villacrucis said the boy suffered a wound in the chest. He was rushed to the Bogo City District Hospital and transferred to a hospital in Cebu City for treatment.

The family reported the incident to the police station to erase doubts of foul play.

“The brother allegedly did not know that the gun was loaded,” Villarcucis said.

He said the Women and Children’s Protection Desk personnel are still investigating why the boys’ uncle kept an improvised gun.

The boy’s brother, he said, cannot be held liable as he is still a minor, but the boys’ uncle will possibly face a complaint for owning the gun. /
