-

Juliet Buhawe of Barangay Centro in Mandaue Barangay Junior Public High School Tutorial Program with Entrepreneurship Exposure has partnered with their barangay.

She felt it will be a more productive way for her daughter to spend her Saturday mornings. Juliet’s eldest child, Yeisha Ashley, is already diligent in class. Yeisha now has access to free tutorials every Saturday and homework assistance every Wednesday. Centro registered their kids as the 20 pioneering Junior Public High School Tutorial Program with Entrepreneurship Exposure.

Headed by Barangay Impact Visayas Management and Support Services Corporation, this program has been designed to address the alarming 57 percent dropout rate nationwide by motivating public high school students to #stayinschool.

It engages 40 junior public high school students per barangay per cycle, equivalent to one grading period in the public schools.

Annually, the program covers four regular cycles and one six-week summer cycle. As it is the first cycle of the program to be implemented in Barangay Centro, the 20 Grade 7 to 10 students were handpicked by the barangay to be the first batch of tutees.

On Aug. 26, the barangay sealed a partnership with the Barangay Impact Management (BIM), making it the pilot barangay for Mandaue. The BIM also partnered with four barangays in Cebu City– Luz, Apas, Guadalupe, and Cogon- Ramos.

Enriquez, during the orientation, assured parents that the children will be assisted by certified volunteer tutors in English and Math.
