ROAD FIXING Ylanan: Potholes patching is 15% done

- RTF

It has been more than a week since the Cebu City Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) announced that it will patch all potholes around the city before the year ends.

But have they made progress since?

City Engr. Josefa Ylanan told SunStar Cebu that as of Dec. 11, they have already fixed around 15 percent of the dilapidated roads.

“It’s ongoing. We’re really going to finish it, if the weather permits. But despite the bad weather, magsige gyud ta og trabaho (we will keep on working) even on Saturdays and Sundays,” she said.

Since last Dec. 4, Ylanan said, DEPW personnel have been working overtime, including weekends, to make sure that damaged roads all over the city are patched by the end of the month. DEPW is working on a P35-million allocation from the 2017 annual budget for the road repair project.

The city engineer added that the civil works is part of the City Government’s preparation for road concreting as asphalting is no longer deemed effective given the unpredictable weather.

As of last Monday, roads in Barangays Tisa, Inayawan, Calamba and Sambag I were already repaired by DEPW, Ylanan said.

Despite the bad weather early this week, DEPW personnel still pushed through with the patch- ing work in portions of Barangay Guadalupe, and on Andres Abellana St., Juana Osmeña Ext. and A. Lopez St.

“Although we’re still at 15 percent, since all over the city man ni, we will do our best so that by the end of the year, we will have patched all the dilapidated roads,” Ylanan said. /
