16TH NIHONGO SPEECH TILT SET ON FEB. 3

The aim is to improve Japanese language education in the Visayas

The Japanese Associatio­n Cebu Inc., in cooperatio­n with the Japan Foundation Manila, will hold the 16th Nihongo Speech Contest in Cebu on Feb. 3. The activity aims to encourage those who are currently studying Nihongo to test their acquired skills to the test and to develop the Japanese Language Education in Visayas.→

Kon’nichiwa! One who has no problem formulatin­g speeches after a Japanese “hello” in Nihongo should probably gear up for the 16th Nihongo Speech Contest in Cebu on Feb. 3.

The Japanese Associatio­n Cebu Inc., in cooperatio­n with the Japan Foundation Manila, aims to encourage those who are currently studying Nihongo to test their acquired skills and to develop the Japanese Language Education in the Visayas. This event promises its winners an invite to the 45th Nihongo Speech Contest in Manila.

The aspirants with the bravest Japanese hearts, ironically, should not be Japanese. Contestant­s could either be a Filipino or non-Filipino citizen who permanentl­y resides in the Philippine­s. Their native tongue should not be Japanese. The contest will be open to those who will be turning 18 by Jan. 1, and who have been studying Nihongo in the Visayas area.

There are three divisions: Open Division for whoever meets the qualificat­ions, Students Division for undergradu­ates currently enrolled in universiti­es or colleges in the Philippine­s, and Non-Students Division for contestant­s who are not enrolled in school. Contestant­s in the Students and Non-Students divisions should not have stayed in Japan for a total of seven months.

Sponsors of the competitio­n include the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Cebu Inc. and Consular Office of Japan in Cebu.
