Motorists and commuters had to endure a nearly 12-hour traffic gridlocl on the national highway and P. Suico St. in Barangay Tabok, Mandaue City starting last Monday evening after a truck lost one of its wheels and stalled.

The Fuso truck with plate number YKY-306 blocked the lane bound for Mandaue City proper.

The Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) had a hard time removing the van as it was carrying construction materials that weighed 20 tons.

Glenn Antigua, chief for operations of Team, said the bolts of the wheels gave way due to the weight of the load it was carrying until one of its wheels in the rear was detached.

The wing van was supposed to travel to northern Cebu from Bohol when the incident happened.

Heavy traffic was experienced in the area from 8:24 p.m. last Monday until 7:38 a.m. yesterday.

According to Louie Alivio of Team, the van was removed from the road and placed on the side with the use of a forklift.

The van was repaired in the area.

Motorists complained of the traffic.

Aside from this, Antigua said there were at least 30 other minor accidents that were recorded in Mandaue City last Monday.

“Usa pud nang naka-contribute sa (traffic), taas ang volume sa mga sakyanan nga nagbiyahe (The holiday season also contributed to the heavy traffic recently),”
