MCWD board appoints new general manager
The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) board of directors recently appointed its new general manager (GM).
Jose Eugenio B. Singson Jr., a civil engineer who previously served as assistant general manager of MCWD, assumed as the new GM last Dec. 1, 2017.
He serves on a coterminous status with the five-member board of directors of MCWD, replacing Engr. Armando H. Paredes who retired in 2014.
MCWD chairman of the board Joel Mari Yu said the appointment of Singson is one of their major decisions to prove that the directors are serious in addressing the water supply issues, the challenges in distribution and the management of water sources in Metro Cebu.
“GM Singson knows and understands the problems and came up with a concrete plan to address them,” Yu said.
Singson, for his part, said aside from closing the gap between supply and demand, the technical teams of MCWD will work on an improved distribution plan to resolve the issues on service hours in different areas in Metro Cebu.
The sourcing plan will also be reviewed to ensure that short-term solutions will be implemented in priority areas and infrastructure programs will be greatly based on those that will solve distribution challenges in the long term.
Singson, a graduate of the University of San Jose-Recoletos who eventually served as a part-time faculty member, is a hydraulics expert who was commissioned to do several projects in the Philippines.
He joined MCWD in 1989 and left in 2016 to pursue a personal advocacy.
